Reading celebrates new addition

A ribbon-cutting was held for the new civic building in Reading Thursday.

Residents in Reading are celebrating tonight with a new addition to their town.

The Emporia Area Chamber and Visitors Bureau held a ribbon-cutting this afternoon for the Reading Civic Building.

The new building will house the town’s City Hall, a tornado shelter and a community center with kitchen facilities.

City council members approved the project last year.

On May 21, 2011 an ef-3 tornado ravaged Reading killing one person and demolishing 54 of the town’s 101 homes, nearly all of its businesses and its post office.
