Tuesday morning, a Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy stopped a 1997 Black Ford Crown Victoria near the Kwik Shop at 746 NE Wabash in the Oakland area. The car matched the description of a suspicious vehicle that was last seen leaving Bailey Recycling and Scrap Metal a short time earlier.
The preliminary investigation revealed material recently stolen from Schmidtlein Exavating Inc., was being sold for scrap at Bailey Recycling. The Deputy, acting on information that was received earlier this morning regarding a theft and criminal damage to Schmidtle in Exzavating Inc., arrested the driver, Robert K. Nesbitt, 25, of Topeka on suspicion of several criminal charges.
Circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation and no other arrest were made in connection with this case.
Nesbitt was booked into the Shawnee County Jail for felony theft, possession of stolen property, criminal damage to property, criminal trespass, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a suspended license and a felony warrant on drug-related charges.
