For the first time since 1992, the NAIA wrestling national championships will make an appearance in Kansas. Topeka is the new home for the event in March of 2014 and 2015.
“Topeka really came after this and it’s been a dream for a really long time for them to host these events,” Jason Michael Ford, NAIA manager of championship sports, said. “We’re excited to host the event here in Topeka and we’re looking forward to 2014, 2015.”
There are currently three NAIA schools in Kansas that participate in wrestling: Baker, Benedictine and Bethany.
“It’s a great feeling and I’m just happy that that feeling is going to get to come to my hometown and our local community,” Richard Fergola, Topeka Local Organizing Committee, co-chair, said. ” Our kids that are wrestling in the NAIA schools will have that opportunity to do that in front of their home crowd.”
The championships will be held at Kansas Expocentre on March 7-8, 2014 and March 6-7, 2015.
