Topeka Public Schools announced changes to its elementary schedule for next school year.
According to USD 501’s website – elementary schools will begin and end school at a later time starting in August.
School will begin each day at 8:40am and end at 3:40pm.
It says the change is to improve the efficiency of the bus routing system.
501 says each Wednesday during a full week of school… the school day will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 3:40 p.m.
The bus drop off on these days will be at 9:00 a.m.
The district says late arrival days will allow more time for teacher collaboration giving teachers 75 minutes a week to work together to improve instruction in the classroom.
It says studies have shown that student achievement levels increase when teachers are given the opportunity to collaborate on a regular basis.
