A bridge opening in Topeka over the weekend was delayed due to thieves stealing parts sometime over the weekend.
Over the weekend, thieves stole parts to the Sardou Bridge in North Topeka delaying its opening.
A city spokesperson said the theft happened sometime between Friday and Saturday.
Vandals removed parts of the steel expansion joint system from the bridges west end. The parts were made exclusively for use on the structure and it is unclear when the contractor will be able to get replacements.
The $500,000 construction started on January 14, 2013 and was expected to last 12 weeks.
