MANHATTAN, Kan. — Early this morning the Manhattan Fire Department was dispatched to 919 Mission Avenue for a report of a structure fire. Upon arrival, crews found a one story, wood framed single family residence with heavy smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure.
The fire reached a Second Alarm before it was contained within 45 minutes. Five fire apparatus and 20 firefighters responded with the last units clearing at around 05:48. At approximately 06:30 the fire rekindled. Crews responded and extinguished the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the occupants at this time.
The fire was in a single family residential structure that was occupied at the time of the fire. Occupants were alerted by a smoke detector and were able to exit the structure without injury. Loss is estimated at $75,000.00 to contents and $80,000.00 to the structure. The owner is listed as Dara’s Fast Lane Inc. of Manhattan. The fire cause is under investigation at this time.
