Emporia State was 10-2 last season, with a 9-2 conference record to finish in second in the MIAA. They defeated Texas A&M-Kingsville 45-38 to win the Kanza Bowl. The Hornets will return 11 starters next season including four players that started at least five games on the offensive line.

“You know I think both sides, in spurts, performed well,” Head Coach Garin Higgins said.  “We still have a long way to go. I think that we have a lot of talent. I think that we’re very inexperienced. I think it kind of showed early. We have a lot of people to replace. We have a lot of production to replace on offense.”

“Tyler Eckenrode was record setting quarterback,” Sophomore QB Brent Wilson said. “He did a great job here. Certainly big shoes to fill for Corbin and I. We’ve been competing this spring and stuff. It’s been a lot of fun. We just make each other better, and the team better. So we just compete everyday and try to improve the team.”
