Yesterday morning, at approximately 2:13 am, a Shawnee County Sheriff Deputy attempted to stop the driver of a mid-2000’s Dodge Durango that was travelling southbound in the 2600 block of S. Topeka Blvd. The Deputy pursued the driver for nearly five minutes before the driver decided to stop on I-70 (Eastbound) between SE Adams and SE California.

The driver was not complying with the verbal instructions given by the Deputy following the car stop. Deputies were able to eventually identify the driver as an adult male after the suspect exited the Durango and started to walk away from the Officers. The driver would not comply with the commands given by the Deputy and repeatedly ignored commands from Officers. The Sheriff’s Deputy deployed his Taser and fired into the suspect thus causing the suspect to become physically incapacitated. The Officers then took the uncooperative suspect into custody.

The suspect was transported to Stormont Vail with minor injuries and for observation due to what appeared to be significantly high levels of alcohol and drugs in his system.

There were two adult females in the vehicle who were not charged in connection with this incident. The suspect is being charged with the following crimes: Felony Fleeing and Eluding, Felony Obstruction, DUI, Possession of Marijuana, Driving without a Driver’s License, Habitual Violator, Failure to move over for Emergency Vehicle, Tag not assigned, Speeding, several other Traffic infractions and a warrant for a Probation Violation.

The name of the suspect is not being released at this time pending further investigation and notifications.
