A state agency now has a new mascot, one that hopes to get people and pets prepared for severe weather.

Fred, “The Preparedness Dog” made his debut at the Topeka Collegiate this morning. Fred is a german shepherd owned by Michael McNulty, who is the emergency operations director for the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.

Fred and his owner helped demonstrate what goes into a severe weather preparedness kit and talk to students about how to be ready and prepare for severe weather events.
