CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — An Australian man standing trial in Wyoming says he was justified in robbing a Jackson bank because he gave the money to the homeless.
Thirty-nine-year old Corey Donaldson is acting as his own attorney in the trial in Cheyenne. He says he took $140,000 from US Bank on New Year’s Eve by claiming that explosives were planted around the building.
In his opening statement Tuesday, Donaldson said he was inspired to rob the bank after meeting homeless people who had been hurt by bank foreclosures.
Donaldson’s statements drew repeated objections from the prosecutor. That’s because the judge has ruled that Donaldson cannot argue the bank robbery was justified.
