A Dickinson County couple married 36 years discovered early this morning they have won $730,484 playing Super Kansas Cash. Their $2 Quick Pick ticket matched all numbers in the May 1 drawing, capturing the jackpot. The winning numbers were 11-14-22-27-32 Cash Ball 05.
“We were dumbfounded,” said the lucky winners. “In one word, we would describe it as ‘surreal.’” Claiming the ticket at Lottery headquarters today, the husband described how he had stopped to get gas and checked his own ticket on a Check-a-Ticket machine. The machine told him to sign the back of the ticket and redeem it at the Lottery.
“I wasn’t sure what that meant, so I had the lady behind the counter check the ticket,” the husband explained. “That’s how we found out we had had won the jackpot! We weren’t even aware the Super Kansas Cash jackpot had been hit in north central Kansas.”
The winners, who have two grown children, knew right away what they would do with their winnings.
“We’re going to pay off our family farm,” they agreed. “It’s a great feeling. This has truly changed our lives.”
The winners, who asked the Lottery not to identify them publicly, said they have been playing the Lottery since it started.
“You can’t win if you don’t play,” said the husband. “And we’re going to keep on playing. We get tickets for every Powerball, Super Kansas Cash and Mega Millions drawing, plus we play scratch tickets, and we already have a ticket for the Firecracker 50/50 drawing.”
The winners purchased their lucky ticket at West Stop West, located at 1324 NW 3rd Street in Abilene. The store will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Kansas Lottery for selling a jackpot-winning Super Kansas Cash ticket.
The Super Kansas Cash jackpot has returned to $100,000 for Saturday’s drawing.
The last time the Super Kansas Cash jackpot was hit was February 9, when a Topeka couple won $100,000. On February 6, a Montgomery County couple hit a Super Kansas Cash jackpot worth $1.065 million.
