Governor Sam Brownback will sign a proclamation today that declares May as Foster Care Month. Brownback signs the proclamation at 11:00 a.m. At 11:30 a.m., lawmakers gather on the south lawn.
State officials said about 5,600 children in Kansas currently live in foster care. Right after the signing, state legislators talk with local foster kids and representatives from about a dozen organizations that help children and families with foster care.
Today is also “Band Together Day,” where advocates wear blue wrist bands to show support for kids in foster homes.
