Three local businesses and one non-profit organization were recognized as winners in their category at the 2013 Small Businesses Awards Luncheon held today in the Washburn Memorial Union. The Small Business Awards event is presented annually by GO Topeka Economic Partnership’s Entrepreneurial and Minority Business Development (EMBD) and by the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce.
Senator Vicki Schmidt was on hand to emcee the event; while Shawnee County Commissioners and Mayor Wolgast presented the awards. Doug Kinsinger, president and CEO of the Greater Topeka Chamber of Commerce/GO Topeka stated, “Small Business success is not just defined by monetary gain, it is about winning. Successful small business owners are agile, devoted and just simply better than the competition. Small business entrepreneurs can see and articulate a big vision, while calculating their risk.” He also encouraged the continued use of the GO Topeka’s EMBD services and resources.
“Each business and organization finalist continues to present determination, innovation, growth, longevity and generosity that embody the award’s character. These business owners and leaders have a natural aptitude for inventive ideas to fill a service gap or product need,” said Cyndi Hermocillo-Legg, GO Topeka’s vice president, entrepreneurial and minority business development. “We can honor our small businesses and non-profit communities throughout the year by shopping local and giving of our time.”
