Four tornadoes confirmed in Northeast Kansas

National Weather Service crews have completed their damage survey assessments across Northeast Kansas. The surveys have confirmed four tornadoes in the Northeast Kansas area on Saturday and Sunday.

First Tornado: (Saturday, 10:35pm to 10:45pm) – Clay County

  • This tornado had a 7 mile path through Clay County near Clifton. At its maximum, it had a width of 100 yards and wind speeds around 100mph. This tornado has been rated an EF-1.

Second Tornado:  (Saturday, 11:00pm to 11:02pm) – Washington County

  • This was a short-track tornado that touched down in the city of Washington. At its maximum, it had a width of 50 yards and winds speeds of 80mph. This tornado has been rated an EF-0 with a track of 0.25 miles.

Third Tornado: (Sunday, 5:27pm to 5:40pm) – Lyon County

  • This tornado touched down near the Emporia Airport and tracked northeast into southeastern Emporia. At its widest, the tornado reached 75 yards with winds near 100mph. This tornado has been rated an EF-1 with a track of 9 miles long.

Fourth Tornado: (Sunday, 5:47pm to 5:51pm) – Lyon County

  • This tornado touched down northeast of the previous tornado, tracking through rural Lyon County to near Reading. At its peak, it had a width of 50 yards and 80mph winds. This tornado has been rated an EF-0 with a track of 3.7 miles long.
