The cemetery association is launching a campaign with ASA Marketing Group to raise money by developing a website.

It will provide obituaries and historical information about the people buried there at a cost of about $100 to $500 each.

Organizers say right now city taxpayers fund $100,000 each year to maintain the cemetery.

The goal is to raise $3 million through the new website so the cemetery can be financially independent.

Organizers say it will also preserve the stories of Topeka’s history.

Topeka residents Jim and Nancy Parrish already donated $10,000 to launch this project.

Organizers expect to raise all the money needed in three to five years.
