WICHITA, Kan. – Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters announced today that Mary Shannon has joined the mentoring organization to lead the statewide efforts as the new Chief Development Officer, effective May 28th, 2013. The former President of Envision Foundation, Mary Shannon brings more than fifteen years of nonprofit leadership experience to the organization under a new and aggressive strategic plan vetted by the Board of Directors to transform Kansas kids by ensuring that every child in need has a mentor.
“We are excited to welcome Mary to our team,” said Dan Soliday, President and CEO, Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters. “The combination of her development and communications experience, along with her passion for serving Kansas youth will go a long way in creating a better and stronger future for Kansas kids. We know the power mentorship has in the lives of youth facing adversity, and we are driven by the difficult reality that we have 4,000 children on our waitlist who need a mentor.”
Says Shannon, “I am honored to be a part of an organization that understands the global impact of positive adult relationships in the lives of children who are at risk, and what it means to their future as they, in turn, grow to be contributing citizens of our community. It is clear to me that Dan Soliday is a servant leader, and his heart, along with that of the Board of Directors, the executive team and staff, are all about the mission. The ability to serve a mission with such a broad reach and direct impact in the lives of thousands of children is an opportunity I am thrilled to be a part of.”
By stepping into the CDO role, Mary Shannon gives David Sherman, former Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters Chief Development Officer, the opportunity to transition to the new position of Sr. VP of Grants and Innovation, a position critical to strategic plan implementation in support of the mission.
