Special Olympics athletes received a warm sendoff Friday morning from TARC as 80 athletes traveled to Wichita for the annual Summer Games.
“It’s a huge social piece for them because it’s what everybody else gets to do and they get to be a part of something just as special, so they are so excited to get to go down and participate,” TARC development director Sherry Lundry said.
Members of the Topeka-Shawnee County team and the Junior Blues squad will represent the Capital City this weekend at the Special Olympics Summer Games in Wichita.
“They’ve looked forward to this all year long and they’re ready to win a medal,” Lundry said.
