Re-zoning for future Fire Station No.13 was unanimously approved by the Topeka City Council Tuesday night.
It will be built a half mile east of SW Wanamaker Rd and SW Sixth Ave.
The council also passed a regulation that businesses with private fire hydrants be regulated.
Businesses like Menards’s will be required to maintain the hydrants annually and provide access for the fire department.
In other council news, concealed carry card holders may have to wait to take their guns into Topeka city buildings despite a state law set to take effect July 1.
The city attorney recommended the council exempt some or all 24 buildings.
Exemptions would initially cover city buildings through January 2014. They’ll take the issue up at a later time.
