KC-area CPA seeks GOP nod for Kan. insurance post

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — A certified public accountant from Leawood who’s an executive in an insurance company is running for the Republican nomination for Kansas insurance commissioner.

Ken Selzer launched his campaign Wednesday with a formal announcement of his candidacy. The GOP primary is August 2014, and he’ll face at least two other candidates.

The incumbent commissioner, Republican Sandy Praeger, is not expected to run again.

The 60-year-old Selzer grew up on a family farm outside of Goessel in central Kansas. He’s an executive managing director of Aon Benfield, a global company providing coverage for insurance companies against catastrophic claims.

Also running for the Republican nomination are Beverly Gossage of Eudora and David Powell of El Dorado. Gossage is director of a health insurance consulting company and Powell is an insurance agent.
