NEW YORK (AP) — Firefighters are working to rescue two window washers stuck near the top of a New York City skyscraper after a scaffold collapse.
Fire department officials say the rescue operation is underway at the Hearst Building in midtown Manhattan, with workers cutting open windows on the 44th floor to try to pull the men in.
The men are trapped in the scaffolding outside the 45th floor, hanging from the side of the building about 600 feet above the ground.
The men are in harnesses. The dangling metal scaffold appears to have buckled in the middle, into an elongated V shape. The men are on either side, communicating with firefighters on the roof of the 46-story building.
