KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Missourians for and against gay marriage both found something to praise in the U.S. Supreme Court’s rulings on the issue.

The Supreme Court struck down a provision of a federal law that denies federal benefits to married gay couples. It also cleared the way for same-sex marriage in California. But the court said nothing about gay marriage bans in states like Missouri.

Democratic Rep. William Lacy of Missouri called the ruling a “historic turning point that advances full equality for all.”

Meanwhile, the Missouri Family Policy Council says it’s pleased. The conservative Christian interest group says it’s “most grateful to God that states like Missouri will be able to continue to defend and uphold the sacred institution of marriage as God designed it.”
