Lake officials warn simmers and boaters about safety

Hot summer days sends many Kansans for a cool down at area lakes.

But with the number of drownings up compared to this time last year, lake officials are warning swimmers and boaters about safety.

The Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism says 12 people have died in state lakes, ponds and rivers so far this year. An original news release indicated 13 people, but the Department most recently reported 12.
