Kansas Preparedness Summit 2013 coming soon

WICHITA, KS. – Pets are the leading cause for people to return before a disaster area has been declared safe, and many times pets are the reason people won ’t evacuate in the first place. Six years ago, as a result of the Greensburg tornado, the animal response team organization of Kansas was created.
This year the Kansas State Animal Response Team has teamed up with the Kansas Medial Reserve Corps (MRC), Kansas Division of Emergency Management (KDEM), Kansas Citizen Corps, and Kansas Volunteer Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) to offer an annual conference designed for volunteers and employees involved in disaster response for animals and humans! The conference is Friday, July 26 and Saturday, July 27 in Wichita, Kansas.
A hands-on temporary animal sheltering workshop, “NO Disaster Here”, will be offered on Friday, July 26 from 9:30am-4:30pm. Saturday, 8:00am-4:30pm, you will find several breakout sessions on topics from volunteer needs, how to plan and what to expect in a disaster, how to plan and execute a disaster exercise, to pet first aid and more. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn more about what is involved in animal disaster response and how you can get involved. Attend one day or both!
