A super soaker

Heavy rainfall fell across Northeast Kansas over the last few days.  On Monday, Topeka’s Billard Airport reported 1.34″ of rain…this set a new daily rainfall record for July 29th.  The old record was 1.14″ in 1895.

A thunderstorm near Olpe in southern Lyon County produced 5″ of rain in just 75 minutes!  This works out to be about an inch of rain every 15 minutes or almost 0.10″ of rain every minute!  Flooding continues in southern Lyon and Coffey counties.

For the month, Topeka is -1.81″ behind our normal rainfall amount for the month of July.
