Athletic trainers remain busy on the sidelines while athletes are on the field.
Team physicians from all over the area joined in on an emergency response rehearsal to simulate how to react when a player goes down.
“I think it’s very important that people understand what the athletic trainers do in the city of Topeka and I think they have a very important role to play that most people don’t understand which is a very highly trained individual who is able to handle athletic injuries.”
John Burns is the Director of Athletic Training at Washburn University and he held an instructional rehearsal on Thursday night to help give athletic trainers a refresher course on what to do in certain injuries that occur in sports.
They might be overlooked, but they’re there when athletes need it most.
