New details on our story about the Topeka Police bomb squad investigating a suspicious van near the Kansas River.
TPD says the van, near a boat ramp close to the weir on the water, contained blasting caps. Police got a warrant to search the van. No other explosives were found inside, we’re told.
Saturday, Police blocked ways to get down to the river, including two cruisers at 14th and Warren.
The van, which is now impounded, belongs to a person who lives outside the county.
Police ask anyone with any information about the van or why there were blasting caps inside to call crimestoppers at 234-0007.
The Topeka Police Department bomb squad was called to a Kansas river boat ramp Saturday evening.
At about 6:30 Lt. Chuck Haggard says Shawnee County Park Police called TPD for help and its bomb squad after finding blasting caps in an abandoned vehicle near a boat ramp close to the weir on the Kansas River.
Police blocked off ways to get down to the river including two cruisers at 14th and Warren.
