US Embassy sends letter to widow after fatal crash

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — The U.S. Embassy has sent a condolence letter to the widow of a man killed in a traffic accident involving a U.S. diplomat.

Latifah Naiman Mariki, whose husband died in the accident, said she received a condolence letter from the U.S. Embassy on Tuesday. It was dated July 12, one day after the crash. Last week Mariki told The Associated Press she had not received communication from the embassy.

Mariki’s husband died in the accident in which police say the speeding U.S. diplomat crossed the center line and hit a mini-bus. U.S. Embassy officials rushed the American out of Kenya the next day.

The embassy charge d’affairs wrote that the thoughts and prayers of the American embassy community “are with you and your family at this difficult time.”
