Bank of America building evacuated

Workers at the Bank of America building in Topeka were evacuated as a precautionary measure this morning.

Around 9:30 a.m. fire crews were called to the downtown high-rise at 534 South Kansas Ave. after a fire alarm sounded.

Apparently an elevator motor near the top floors of the building began smoking and caused concern.  Smoke spread through the hallways, workers were let back in after about half an hour later.
