3-day marijuana festival, rally at Seattle park

SEATTLE (AP) — Tens of thousands of people are expected to crowd a waterfront park in Seattle Friday, Saturday and Sunday for the city’s annual Hempfest, a combination political rally and celebration with music, food, arts and crafts.

This is the 22nd year for the event but the first since Washington voted to legalize possession of small amounts of the drug and set up a state licensing system to produce and sell marijuana.

Police will be watching over Myrtle Edwards Park — maintaining order and munchies — they’ll be handing out 1,000 bags of Doritos with a guide to legal marijuana use in Seattle and what’s illegal.

Hempfest is free but visitors are asked to donate $10 to offset costs.
