Charlie Weis unveiled the 2013 team captains for the Jayhawk football team on Monday. He said the team lacked leadership last season and named the captains, as voted by the team: Quarterback Jake Heaps, running back James Sims, linebacker Ben Heeney and defensive lineman Keon Stowers.

“These guys have done an amazing job this offseason, and that’s why we’ve come together so much as a team more than anybody really knows because we’ve all bought into what we’re trying to do this year,” Heaps said.

Weis also added a nine-member team to serve as the Leadership Committee for the Jayhawks.

“I just think this off-season has changed a little bit,” Sims said. “I’ve started coming in and being more vocal, and that’s helped out a lot that they chose me and them as captains.”
