The Wamego Red Raiders finished unbeaten against league opponents last season. However, the North Central Kansas League champions missed out on the postseason.
“We have a lot of spots to fill, now that being said, I’m excited for the young people that are trying out for those spots,” Wamego head coach Dale Burkholder said. “So, we’re going to be new on offense, and defense I think we’re going to be okay for a change.”
Wamego lost three straight matchups against district opponents to finish the year.
“I think we’re looking better,” Matthew Roudybush, Wamego senior wide receiver/defensive end said. “Our defense is really stepping up, our offense is the same as last year. Just looking to go out and play hard.”
The Red Raiders begin the season at home against Rock Creek on Friday, September 6th.
“I think we’re going to have a pretty good offense, we’re going to move the ball on people,” Trenton York, Wamego senior wide receiver/defensive back said. “The defense is going to improve a lot from last year.”
“Seniors are very helpful, I have a good bunch,” Burkholder said. “I only have 11 this year, but they’re 11 good ones.”
