People in Topeka have a new place to play the sport of pickleball. It’s one of the fastest-growing sports in the country and Hughes Park in Topeka now is home to new courts.
“Pickleball is a combination between tennis, badminton, ping-pong, racquetball and you play it on a badminton sized court,” Pickleball player Eldonna Coats, said. “You have a net two inches lower than a tennis net and you serve underhanded and it’s very fast-paced.”
The tennis courts as Hughes Park were re-purposed for the game and local players celebrated the park’s grand opening.
About 150 people actively play pickleball in the Capital City.
