Emporia State student-athletes were put to the test on Thursday morning by members of the media. The Hornets participated in a media training session with mock interviews to see what it’s like to field questions from the press.

“A lot of times when you have to deal with student-athletes in the media, you’re doing it right after a game, they’re sweaty, tired, beat up,” Don Weast, ESU Assistant Athletic Director of Media Relations said. “This way we’re able to let them meet the area media and talk with that.”

All first-year student-athletes are required to take a course called Generating Opportunities through Academics and Life Skills (GOALS).

“What we try to do with this training is to get to know our media and understand that you guys are doing your job and that they have a job to do too,” Weast said. “Work it back and forth and hopefully that helps them prepare themselves as they go on in life.”
