While some counties are struggling to balance the budget without raising taxes, Pottawatomie County did just that.
The commissioners have approved the 2014 budget without a mill increase.
Pottawatomie County’s current mill levy is 25.975 and won’t change.
According to County Clerk Nancy McCarter, there were no cuts or additions but one change did help to keep costs down.
Seven fire districts became one consolidated district covering 47% of the county.
McCarter says commissioners agreed to keep the levy the same if at all possible and departments worked together to make that happen.
