It’s no secret that Silver Lake is a traditional powerhouse in Kansas.

The Eagles nearly earned another state championship last season as Silver Lake fell to Scott City in the 3A title matchup.

This year’s class has expectations for a return trip to the championship.

“They’ve been very good,” Silver Lake head coach C.J. Hamilton said. “They’ve been in the program, the seniors anyway, for four years and they know what to expect. They know we need to pick up our intensity level and do things right.”

Hamilton isn’t the winningest head coach in Kansas by accident. Silver Lake made an appearance to 10 state championships in the last 11 years.

“Well, we’re hoping to make it back to the state championship this year,” Silver Lake senior linebacker/offensive lineman Johnathan Dallman said. “We made it so many years in the past. We’re just being physical and fast. That’s the name of our game.”

They’ve won eight-straight Mid-East league titles and remains as the team to beat at the 3A level in the area.

“Not much different this year,” Silver Lake senior quarterback/cornerback Dailin Kruger said. “We like to play fast and physical. We’re a little bit smaller and a little shorthanded but we have guys that are willing to step up to the task and fill in the gaps.”

Silver Lake opens the season against Wabaunsee.

“Right now they have their group goals and they have their individual goals,” Hamilton said. “As a coaching staff, we’re just trying to get every one of our players – freshman through senior – better each day.”
