Santa Fe Trail struggled last season as the Chargers went winless on the 2012 campaign.
This year, the goal is obvious but the good news is that Santa Fe Trail has nowhere to go but up.
“We have 7 starters back on both sides of the ball who were all sophomores and a couple of freshmen last year and now they’re juniors and sophomores,” Santa Fe Trail head coach Jayson Duncan said. “They’re a little more experienced, a little more tougher. They’ve been in the weight room a little longer so they’re bigger and stronger. We feel pretty good about the group we have coming back.”
The Chargers have yet to win a game against a Big 7 League opponent as the rebuilding phase is underway.
“We like hard work and dedication and feel like we’re going to be pretty good this year,” Santa Fe Trail senior wide receiver/cornerback Tyler Mundy said.
Santa Fe Trail begins the season at Royal Valley.
“This year, we’re doing better,” Santa Fe Trail senior running back/linebacker Chase Logan said. “I think we’re doing a lot better than we were in the previous years. We’ve had more people at summer weights, practices are going a lot smoother. I think we can win some games this year.”
