Highland Park football claimed only one victory during the 2012 season but this year the Scots are determined to improve in the win column.
“They’re really paying attention and they really want to see these freshmen kids grow up in the next two, three years and make something of themselves,” Highland Park head coach Nick Cummings said.
The Scots know they’ve been overmatched the last few years on the gridiron but aren’t making any excuses.
“At Highland Park, we’re known about losing but this year I was thinking and my team was thinking that we don’t want to lose this year,” Highland Park senior wide receiver/safety Miguel Roberts said. “We’re tired of losing so this year is the shock year for us and we’re going to shock Topeka.”
Confidence isn’t lacking with this bunch as they’ve worked throughout the year in hopes of getting better.
“That’s our goal this year,” Highland Park senior quarterback/cornerback Kameron Clark said. “Keep pushing, keep fighting. We have a lot of support coming back. That’s all we can hope to do.”
Highland Park begins the season against Topeka High at Hummer Sports Park.
