Emporia State dominates Fort Hays State to begin season

Brent Wilson had the best first start by a quarterback in Emporia State history in the Hornets 43-13 victory at Ft. Hays State on Thursday night.

The sophomore was 21 of 28 for 301 yards and three touchdowns while adding 74 yards on 13 rushes with another touchdown. Austin Willis was his favorite target, catching a career high nine passes for 216 yards and three touchdowns.  Dozie Iwaugwu was the leading rusher for Emporia State with 86 yards on 18 carries.

As a team Emporia State racked up 591 yards while holding Ft. Hays State to 207 yards on the night.

Neil Shortell led a balanced Hornet defense with five tackles, two for loss. Deveon Diwiddie and Corben Abila each had an interception and Deveon Dinwiddie added a fumble recovery.

The Hornets are back in action on Thursday, September 12 on Jones Field at Welch Stadium in Emporia.
