ABWA names Top Ten Business Women of the Year

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., – The American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) named Eileen Caspers, General Director of School and Career Programs Topeka Public Schools, one of the Top Ten Business Women of the Year.  The Top Ten Business Women of ABWA is a national program that honors 10 outstanding members for achieving excellence in career, education and community involvement.

Caspers has worked in education for 23 years and currently works at Topeka Public Schools as General Director of School and Career Programs. She is active in the Topeka community serving as a board member for the North Topeka Arts District and Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, member of the Founder team and currently Past Chair for the Topeka Area Society of Manufacturing Engineering, past member of the GO Topeka Economic Development Team, and member of the Relay for Life Team to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Eileen is a graduate of Fort Hays State University with two bachelor degrees in Marketing and Education.  She completed a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration and Leadership in 2003 and currently working on her doctorate in Educational Administration and Leadership from Kansas State University. Eileen began her education career as a Family and Consumer Science teacher in K-12 and transferred to technical education where she worked as a business teacher, Business/Industry Training Liaison, Associate Director of Curriculum and Instruction, and now General Director of School and Career Programs in Topeka Public Schools.  She is active in working with business and industry to align Career and Technical Education programs with industry workforce needs and certifications. She is also the leader to develop of the district’s Topeka Center for Advanced Learning Careers, a program where students work directly with industry on projects and programs and further develop their career pathway.

The local ABWA Career Chapter nominated Caspers for the Top 10 honor as she completes her term as Vice-President.  Eileen is member of the Career Chapter and has served as 2010-12 Recording Secretary for two years, 2013 Vice-President, 2013 Chair of the fundraising committee raising over $8000 for scholarships, and currently the 2014 ABWA Career Chapter President. She continuously recruits members to the Career Chapter to receive the benefits of ABWA.

“Top Ten candidates are a paradigm for ABWA members who strive for excellence in their careers, their communities, and in the Association,” says René Street, ABWA Executive Director. “It is a privilege to recognize these outstanding women this year at the National Women’s Leadership Conference in Little Rock and to gain inspiration from their accomplishments.”  In Little Rock, at the ABWA National Leadership Conference, the Top 10 candidates will be interviewed and asked to present a three minute speech how they have inspired others; thereafter a committee will select the American Business Woman of the Year for 2014.

When asked about the Top 10 selection, Eileen stated, “I am honored to represent my Career Chapter as a Top 10 Candidate. This recognition verifies the value of ABWA in the development of each individual member and how each person is inspired to grow professionally and personally. ABWA has complimented my educational professional development and helped me grow professionally and personally with other business professionals. I am elated about being a national representative for the organization and grateful to all my ABWA friends and supporters for this wonderful honor”
