Bible exhibit on display at Baker University

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. (AP) – An exhibit featuring Bible illustrations and woodcuts dating to Medieval times is on display at Baker University.

The Lawrence Journal-World  reports that the Quayle Bible Collection exhibit is titled “Illuminating the Bible: Woodcuts and Engravings.”

The exhibit is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through August 2014 in the Helen Foresman Spencer wing of the Collins Library on the Baker campus. A reception is planned for Sept. 19.

Before the printing press, artists made book texts more vivid and engaging with miniature paintings, pen-and-ink drawings, gold leaf and even doodles. Some of the finest artists of every era were engaged in book production.

The Quayle collection’s Nuremberg Chronicle from 1493 will be turned to a page showing the creation of the world.
