MANHATTAN, KS — A suspect or suspects in a Riley County are still on the loose.

Police found the body of a 68-year-old man after a welfare check Sunday, at 2500 Farm Bureau Road Lot 277.

Nicolette Schleisman explains why neighbors are scared.

Because police just are not releasing a lot of details about the death of John Burroughs, other than that they have determined it a homicide. Neighbors say not knowing is leaving them scared of what happened next door.

“I was pretty shocked. Didn’t quite know what to think. It’s a pretty quiet neighborhood,” said neighbor, Greg Dillon.

It was not unusual for Greg Dillon to not see John Burroughs on the weekends.

“He was such a nice guy and friendly, and he never had any enemies,” said Dillon.

But Sunday, when Dillon saw police cars around the yard he and Burroughs shared, he knew something was not right.

“Your first thoughts are was it robbery, was it random? You just don’t quite know. He was such a nice guy,” said Dillon

It was not until another neighbor told him Burroughs had been murdered when he started to feel uneasy.
Riley County Police Department are not releasing a lot of information about what happened, or if this is an isolated incident.

“Manhattan is a pretty safe place to live, we don’t have a lot of reports of homicide every year,” said Riley County Police Department Public Information Officer, Matthew Droge.

Leaving neighbors scared.

“I am right now, yes. Cause you never know,” said Dillon.

Riley County Police Department say they have not arrested anyone yet. But they will not say if they do have any idea of who their suspect or suspects could be.
