It’s not exactly ski slope weather, in fact it doesn’t feel like fall yet but that isn’t stopping the Topeka Ski Club from celebrating 50 years.
The club coordinates bus trips to ski resorts in Colorado and has year round activities that don’t always involve the white powdery slopes, like float trips and chili cook offs.
Even club members realize celebrating a ski club’s anniversary in this heat isn’t usual.
“It’s very ironic,” says Topeka Ski Club President Stan Stegelman. “I thought today, you know you can say ‘boy I’d rather be skiing cause it’s cold’ or ‘how can you even think about skiing when it’s this hot.”
