(WLWT)  A 5-year-old boy is being credited with saving a family from a four-alarm fire in Newport, Kentucky.

Homeowner Richard Deaton wasn’t there when the fire broke out, but his 84-year-old mother was, with his future daughter-in-law and his 5-year-old grandson.

He said he owes the safety of all three to the youngest among them.

“My grandson was there, he noticed something wet on the wall or by the front door and he told his mother and they got the dogs and started yelling and said go down and get grandma out,” said Deaton.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
