BEIJING (AP) — A Hong Kong newspaper says fallen Chinese politician Bo Xilai has written a letter to his family insisting he is innocent but saying he is ready to go to jail. The letter began circulating online just days before a court will issue a verdict in Bo’s corruption trial.
The South China Morning Post reported Thursday that two people with close ties to the Bo family had verified the letter’s authenticity. The newspaper did not name its sources, which has been common with Hong Kong media covering the sensitive case.
The Associated Press was unable to independently verify the authenticity of the letter.
Bo stood trial last month on charges of taking bribes, embezzlement and abuse of power.
Observers believe Bo will be found guilty when the verdict is announced Sunday.
