LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — When does STEM become STEAM? When a good dose of the creative arts is injected in to learning science, math, engineering and technology.
That’s the idea behind programs being offered to students at the Lawrence Arts Center. The goal is to work to enhance what students are learning in the classroom to be more proficient in science and math while showing how the subjects are connected to fine arts such as music and sculpture.
The Lawrence Journal-World reports (http://bit.ly/1f08kJX ) that the arts center is trying to broaden the learning of students while stirring their creativity. Center education program manager Margaret Morris says separating arts from other subjects is unnatural.
Programs are offered for students from preschool to older grades throughout the summer and school year.
