The Emporia State Hornets are lighting up the scoreboard so far this season. After three games, ESU leads the MIAA in total offense, passing offense, first downs and time of possession.

“The main thing for us is winning games and the stat part comes with it,” Emporia State head coach Garin Higgins said. “If you’re having success and are able to move the ball offensively, but at the same time protect the football.”

Last week, the offense broke four MIAA records in a win at Central Oklahoma. Quarterback Brent Wilson earned the National Offensive Player of the Week after he tossed seven touchdowns.

“We have a game plan of scoring a lot of points and executing our game plan,” said Wilson who was also named the MIAA Offensive Player of the Week. “It’s been a tremendous team effort throughout these first three games. We couldn’t have put up all those points without everybody contributing in their role and great receivers like Ray Ray (Davis) and Austin (willis) have done a tremendous job making my job easy and it’s a lot of fun when we’re being successful, moving the chains and scoring points.”

ESU returns home this Saturday to face a winless Northeastern State squad. Kickoff is at 1 PM at Welch Stadium.
