A proven leader with more than a decade of fiscal management experience will be the City of Topeka’s next Financial and Administrative Services Director, City Manager Jim Colson announced Tuesday. Douglas Gerber will start in Topeka in March.
“Doug’s experience in the intricacies of city finance will help him hit the ground running,” Colson said. “Our strengthened leadership team will continue tackling financial challenges while providing our citizens the high-quality services they expect.”
Gerber has experience in small and large jurisdictions. He has served as Goodland’s City Manager since 2009, where he oversaw daily operation of all city departments. From 2003 to 2009, Gerber was city administrator for the City of Beloit. He also served as assistant city manager for the City of Salina, and administrative services director for the City of Beloit, where he acted as chief financial officer and city treasurer, preparing and presenting the annual city budget. Gerber also interned in the administrative offices of Kent County, Michigan, and the City of Manhattan, Kansas.
Gerber is a Leadership Kansas graduate, and received an ICMA Program Excellence Award in 2005.
He and his wife Michele have been married for 21 years, and have six children. They enjoy traveling, family fun nights, and cheering on the Kansas State Wildcats.
The City of Topeka used a competitive hiring process for this position. Five candidates were interviewed.
