The winner of the $1 million prize in this year’s Holiday Millionaire Raffle is Nancy Hubble of Norwich. The 57-year-old winner claimed the ticket late yesterday afternoon at Lottery headquarters, a week after the drawing in which raffle ticket number 120298 was drawn as the $1 million winner.
“When I went to the Lottery website that night to check our tickets, the first thing I saw was a photo of the winning number announcement and the lady holding a case that had a number in it that looked very familiar,” Hubble said.
Hubble and her “longtime partner and best friend” Todd Lintel told Lottery officials they had eight raffle tickets between them.
“I had five tickets,” Lintel said. “And, unbeknownst to me, Nancy had three.”
Hubble said she had purchased the three tickets at different locations, but hadn’t told anybody she had them.
“I don’t know why I didn’t tell anyone I had the tickets,” she said. “I guess I didn’t think I’d win anything. Todd is always the lucky one.”
Hubble’s happy story is also bittersweet. The time when she checked her tickets on the Lottery’s website, a little after midnight on New Year’s Eve, was almost the exact time her 19-year-old daughter Casey was killed in a car accident on New Year’s Eve 12 years ago.
“Right away Todd said, ‘Casey did this, I know she did,’” Hubble said with tears in her eyes. “And when I called my son Skylar that night to tell him I’d won, he told me he was sitting outside thinking about Casey at the moment I called.”
The emotional winner said they were still pondering what to do with the money.
“This is really a blessing to us,” said Hubble. “I think we’re going to invest in some things, and because we love to hunt and fish, we may also take a fishing trip to Florida.”
Hubble owns her own business, Inland Corporation, a paving company in Norwich.
Coincidentally when Hubble was at Lottery headquarters, Governor Sam Brownback was also there to attend a meeting and posed for a picture with the $1 million winner. It was also the first “big winner photo” for the Kansas Lottery’s new Executive Director, Terry Presta, who started in his position this week.
The store that sold the $1 million Holiday Millionaire Raffle ticket is Casey’s General Store 2308, located at 442 East D Avenue in Kingman. For selling the ticket, the store becomes eligible for a $1,000 bonus.
