A semi rammed into a Kansas Highway Patrol car in a construction zone yesterday morning.
The crash happened around 7:45 on westbound Highway 24, just west of Menoken Road.
A semi-truck missed the curve through the construction zone and struck the patrol car, pushing it deeper into the zone and crushing it.
Trooper Greg Kyser was watching for people speeding through the construction zone when the crash occurred.
“We do have a lot of guys that go out and work these construction zones just to help them make things safer for the workers, cause those guys are actually a lot of times standing on the side of the road doing different things,” says Josh Kellerman, Kansas Highway Patrol.
Kyser was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Highway 24 was shut down for five hours. it re-opened at about 12:30 yesterday afternoon.
