Tyson Toelkes, a senior wrestler at Shawnee Heights High School, signed his letter on intent on Monday afternoon to wrestle at Ottawa University next year.
When Toelkes arrives at Ottawa, it will be in inaugural year for the wrestling program.
“It’s actually crazy,” Toelkes said. “It’s really relieving. When I first started talking to Coach Andres he was like, ‘yeah we can have a scholarship for you on Wednesday on your visit’, and I had just talked to him that Saturday, so it’s nice”.
“As soon as I found out how good he was, I was all on top of trying to get him to come to Ottawa,” Wrestling coach Kevin Andres said. “He’s solid top to bottom. He’s a hard worker, he’s meticulous, and he gets good grades. Those are all good things that make a really good wrestler”.
“Placing at state is always the big goal,” Toelkes said, “But my favorite memory is yet to come. And that’s when I win state in February”.
